JONAH: A Big God Story

8/19/2012 - 10/21/2012

The story of Jonah is probably one of the most well known in all of Scripture. After all, it's not every day your pastor gets eaten by a fish and lives to tell about it. But the fish only gets a couple of verses in the whole book. The point is that there is something much deeper going on in Jonah than a call to simple obedience. Jonah is more of a story about a big God than a big fish. In this brief book, we see God graciously pursuing Jonah over and over again. We also see sailors and sinners repent, but God's prophet is reluctant to do so. How do we make sense of it all and put it all together? Focusing on the sovereign God of Jonah rather than the fish that had him for a snack will allow us to see grace in a place that it's often not seen.
